Liam Gallagher has spoken out in defence of Taylor Swift following her spat with Damon Albarn over social media.
Taylor had taken to social media after comments from Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon after he claimed that she ‘doesn’t write her own songs’, something the singer denies is the case.
She had tweeted: ‘I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging.
‘You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f**ked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.’
Damon had later apologised following the backlash, telling Taylor: ‘I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait.
‘I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. – Damon.’
Liam has now addressed the furore – and thrown a cheeky dig at Damon by calling the band ‘gorilla’ instead of Gorillaz – admitting he thinks Taylor is ‘f**king cool’.
He told NME when asked whether co-writing is not ‘real’ songwriting: ‘Says who? All them f**king gorilla albums are co-writes aren’t they?
‘I get it – Noel bangs on about it as well: “I’m more important than you because I write my f**king songs.”’
Liam added: ‘Well, he [Damon] won’t be saying that again in a hurry, though, will he? Did he not get ran out of f**king town by the Swifters?
‘I think [Taylor’s] f**king cool, man. She does write her songs and I’m sure she’s co-wrote with people.’
Given that Liam’s band Oasis and Damon’s Blur had a famous ‘Battle of the Britpop’ feud in the 90s, we’d have put money on him being #TeamTaylor in this row.
