Leyton Orient thoroughly deserved win over Wimbledon says Moncur
Leyton Orient’s George Moncur admitted it felt great to get back to winning ways in League Two with success over Wimbledon at Brisbane Road.
The long-time leaders had won just once in seven previous matches, 1-0 against Doncaster three weeks earlier with their only goal in that sequence.
But Moncur struck just past the hour to secure a welcome victory which put them four points clear of Stevenage at the summit.

And he told the club website: “It’s massive. I looked at the results after, obviously it’s quite a decent gap again but to be fair it’s not about the other teams, it’s about us.
“We know how good we are away from home and at home. Unfortunately we didn’t pick up a win in six games, or something like that, but we kept believing.
“We know the quality we’ve got in the team, from front to back there is quality everywhere, and I thought we thoroughly deserved to win that today.”
O’s had lost 2-0 when the sides met in early November and Moncur agreed it felt good to avenge that loss, praising teammate Rob Hunt for his help in the decisive moment.
“I think that was the second loss of the season,” he added.
“Especially at their gaff, their new ground is really nice. They get on top of you. It was difficult to take but things happen and to get a win against them today is really pleasing.
“I like to back myself in the box. If I get players, facing them up, I can go left or right. I see the bottom corner, Hunty did well for me, he dragged the player away and left a gap, so it was nice to score.”
Moncur was also grateful for the work done by Theo Archibald and recent recruit Kieran Sadlier, who he knows well from their youth-team days.
“I know him really well from West Ham, I’ve known his game backwards since about 13, 14 years old,” he said.
“It’s good to have that link up on the left side, I’ve got it as well on the right with Theo or when Smythy plays.
“Whoever we play, whoever plays, I think we’ve got enough quality to win games.
“Theo and ‘Sads’ occupied the wing-backs quite well and that leaves quite a big space for me either to run behind them or in the gaps between the centre-halves.
“I felt like I had a lot of joy with that today. Some games are different where they shut the space more, but I felt we really moved the ball well, looked back to our old self and it’s great to get the win.”
