Leyton Orient ease to success at Sutton United

Richie Wellens made three changes to his side as Tom James, Ed Turns and Darren Pratley came back into the side.

And they applied early pressure, with Ruel Sotiriou seeing a shot deflected behind for a corner on five minutes.

Kieran Sadlier was unable to divert his effort from a James cross on target on 11 minutes but struck moments later with a stunning strike from 30 yards.

Idris El Mizouni fired over after some nice link-up play, before O’s doubled their advantage on 25 minutes as James took aim from long range and fired into the top corner of the net.

Sadlier angled another effort from Paul Smyth’s drilled cross over the crossbar just past the half-hour mark, with the Irishman then denied by a good save.

Sutton sent a free-kick over at the other end before the break, with Harry Beautyman firing into the arms of Lawrence Vigouroux from another soon after the restart.

Lee Angol then headed wide for the hosts on 50 minutes, before El Mizouni had a shot cleared.

James, after receiving a yellow card, found Sadlier with a superb through ball but his shot was saved by Rose.

And Sadlier had another chance on 63 minutes after being teed up by Smyth, but fired over.

Sadlier made way for Charlie Kelman and Sotiriou had his name taken, before being replaced by Aaron Drinan, as Jordan Brown came on for Pratley.

Kelman then burst through from Smyth’s pass but could not find the finish to beat Rose with seven minutes left.

Omar Beckles produced a couple of vital clearances as Sutton pushed late on, with Kelman blazing a shot from outside the box over the home crossbar during four minutes of injury time.

Victory leaves O’s with 84 points from 41 games ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Gillingham.
