Lewis Capaldi has been away from the stage for a while but he clearly hasn’t lost his banter, after cracking jokes about his sex life at this year’s Isle of Wight festival.

The Someone You Loved hitmaker headlined the annual music event on Friday night, joining Kasabian and Muse on the line-up.

It’s been a while since fans have seen Lewis, 25, perform live with the singer taking time off to work on new music following the release of his chart-topping breakout album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, in 2019.

However, some things clearly never change as the Scot was just as humorous and cheeky as ever.

After arriving on stage armed with his guitar, Lewis reportedly told the packed-out crowds: ‘I’m very rusty at this.’

He then joked according to the Sun on Sunday: ‘It’s been a while since I did a gig like this, which is also what I tell every girl I have a one night stand with.

‘Yes I have had lots of sex. Lots of sex. This is gonna be fun, but I’m very nervous. This is the first time I’ve ever headlined a festival and if I f*** it up, it will be the last time.’

Lewis’ setlist stuck to his best-loved hits and surprising covers, including Backstreet Boys’ Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) and Lionel Richie’s Hello and All Night Long, and didn’t preview any of his new material which fans have been anticipating.

Being completely honest about the lack of new tunes, Lewis quipped: ‘I was meant to play new music but I’m a lazy c**t and didn’t do it over lockdown.’

Prior to the Isle of Wight set, Lewis performed at Parklife in Manchester last weekend, which was his first gig since he headlined Wembley Stadium in March 2020.

The musician used the Covid pandemic as an opportunity to take a break and reports have recently suggested that the star is due to release his second album later this year.

Earlier this month, the singer was reportedly spotted filming his new music video at Windsor’s Theatre Royal with over 100 cast and crew.
