Lewis Capaldi brought Radio 1’s Big Weekend to a close in truly epic style.

The Scottish singer-songwriter was part of an epic line-up for this year’s festival in Dundee, playing alongside the likes of Anne-Marie, the Jonas Brothers, Raye, and Saturday night headliners The 1975.

Also on the bill were Thirty Seconds To Mars, who were originally due to play yesterday, before technical difficulties led to a change in scheduling.

With Lewis being one of the biggest artists in the UK at the moment and having just released his second album, it’ll come as no surprise at all that he received a spectacular reception from the crowd of 80,000 revellers.

The Someone You Loved hitmaker, 26, had the audience belting out his biggest hits, including the recent chart-topper Forget Me.

His set-list also included romantic ballad Pointless, Before You Go, and latest release Wish You The Best.

He even stunned the crowd with a cover of Taylor Swift’s classic hit Love Story.

Lewis put his own spin on the country track and performed it with guitar, showcasing his impressive pipes.

He later stepped away from the mic to let fans sing along in what can only be described as a goosebump-inducing moment.

One of the biggest surprises, however, was when Lewis welcomed a special guest to the stage to finish the show.

Former One Direction star Niall Horan – who had played just before Lewis took to the stage – strolled out to give him a hug, much to the delight of fans.

In fact, Niall was returning the favour, as Lewis also gatecrashed Niall’s performance to say hello.

To be fair, it’s something the musicians have become known for, having shown up at one another’s gigs on several occasions since becoming besties.

Niall, 29, and Lewis left the stage together, arm in arm, as fireworks lit up the night sky after a truly amazing weekend of music.

Taking to Twitter after watching the performance as they streamed live on BBC, fans couldn’t help but get emotional.

‘Just watched @LewisCapaldi and @NiallOfficial at the big weekend amazing performances from them love them both!’, one person tweeted.

‘Not a lot better than seeing Lewis Capaldi smash his big weekend headline set’, another wrote.

‘crying over lewis capaldi at big weekend’, another tweeted.

‘Watching @LewisCapaldi at radio one’s big weekend was incredible. So emotional, he’s an absolute legend and talent’, one added.

Lewis will surely be welcoming all the praise with open arms, particularly after speaking about struggling with his mental health.

In fact, the Bruises vocalist has confessed that he will pack in music completely if his mental health worsens.

The singer – who has been diagnosed with Tourette’s – admitted that his recent mental health issues were a ‘direct symptom’ of his fame, which has taken him on tours around the world.

Speaking to Rebecca Judd’s Apple Music podcast recently, he said: ‘I’ll take a few panic attacks and my Tourette’s and stuff for what’s happening.

‘But if it gets to the point where things get worse mentally, I think that would be a point where I’d be like, “I’m just not going to do this anymore”.’

Expanding on his problems, Lewis admitted that his next album, for which there are no current plans, might well be his last.

‘I’m at a point where I can balance my mental health and how I feel in general,’ he said.

‘Not even just mental health, but the trade-off is worth it.’
