Lenovo launches a slew of laptops, including one made out of food

TL;DR

  • Lenovo launched over a dozen laptops at MWC 2023.
  • Of them, the Z13 is the most unique, with a cover made of flaxseed scraps.
  • There are also Chromebooks, a new tiny-in-one, and a new high-tier support service.

Mobile World Congress 2023 is officially on, and Lenovo is pulling out all the stops. The company launched over a dozen laptops in its Z, X, T, E, and L lines. It also launched a new tiny-in-one and a new service that promises the highest level of support from the company.

There’s a lot to get through, so let’s dive in.

New Lenovo Windows-based laptops

The coolest new laptops from the brand are in the Z line, namely the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 (both second-generation models). These traditional clamshell laptops are designed specifically for the business user who is constantly on the go. The laptops have a few unique features catered towards this type of user, including a new quick-launching control center that gives you settings related to video calls (muting the mic, turning the camera on, etc.). Both the Z13 and Z16 come with AMD Ryzen 7000 processors.

Uniquely, the ThinkPad Z13 comes with a cover made of flaxseed. This makes the laptop quite environmentally friendly while also making each individual laptop totally unique. The cover’s texture is very much like the cardboard that appears at the back of a spiral notebook. It looks really cool in person. Other recycled materials are used to create the laptop, and its packaging also includes quick-composting materials with minimal dependence on plastic. Unfortunately, the Z16 does not have the flaxseed cover.

Moving on, we have the fourth-generation ThinkPad X13 and X13 Yoga, both of which being 2-in-1 designs. The X13 comes with either the latest Intel or AMD CPUs, while the Yoga is locked to Intel only. The ThinkPad T14 (Gen-4), ThinkPad T14s (Gen-4), and T16 (Gen-2) are workhorse laptops designed for the business user who needs something dependable, versatile, and powerful. Each T-model comes with either 13th-gen Intel processors or AMD Ryzen 7000-series processors.

Whatever your needs are for a laptop, Lenovo has you covered.

The ThinkPad L13, L13 Yoga, L14 Yoga, L15, and L15 Yoga (Gen-4) are for the more general user but still offer plenty of power. You can choose from the latest Intel or AMD mobile CPUs. For users that need high-resolution displays, the ThinkPad E14 (Gen-4) and E16 (Gen-1) come with the latest Intel or AMD processors and up to a WQXGA IPS panel (2,560 x 1,600).

Finally, there’s also a new IdeaPad model with the IdeaPad Duet 3i (Gen-8). This highly portable model is ideal for students and others who want a detachable keyboard.

A new Chromebook

Lenovo is now on the eighth generation of its IdeaPad Chromebook series. The new model is the IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook (Gen-8). The company actually put a ton of upgrades into this machine.

It has a brighter display, a larger battery (47Wh), and a new 5MP webcam, which includes a privacy shutter. There’s also a new keyboard button that can quickly mute or unmute the microphone, which is perfect for folks who do a lot of video calls. Top-firing speakers flanking each side of the keyboard promise rich and loud audio. There’s even Wi-Fi 6 support.

The new IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook comes in two colors: Cloud Gray and Abyss Blue.

As if launching over a dozen laptops wasn’t enough, Lenovo also launched a new tiny-in-one (TIO) desktop. These unique-to-Lenovo systems come with a monitor and a slot at the back for holding a very tiny desktop PC. The ThinkCentre TIO (Gen-5) comes in either 21.5-inch or 23.8-inch models, both with 16:9 aspect ratios and optional touchscreen support. These are perfect for businesses, shops, and other situations in which a compact, easy-to-use system would be beneficial.

Finally, Lenovo also launched Premier Support Plus. This is now the company’s most robust suite of support services for Lenovo users, promising the highest level of attention from Lenovo techs. For those users who depend on their computers for their entire business lives, this new support service could be the difference between success or failure on the job.

Unfortunately, Lenovo didn’t have pricing, availability, or release date information about any of these products.

In addition to these laptops, the company introduced an interesting rollable screen laptop concept, which doubles its screen size at the touch of a button. Plus, Lenovo’s Motorola unit showcased an intriguing concept of its own — dubbed “Rizr,” this 5-inch screen smartphone features an expandable screen that goes up to 6.5 inches in under three seconds.
