The latest Lego Icons car set is a spot-on recreation of a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette cabriolet, complete hard or open-top configurations.

Lego has been making detailed models of classic cars for years now, from a Land Rover Defender to a Porsche 911, and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Corvette production they’ve announced a bright red Chevrolet Corvette cabriolet, which despite looking iconically 50s is actually from 1961.

Modelled on the first generation version, it’s got the signature headlight split, curves in all the right places, and the official badge on the front.

More importantly, there’s a ton of moving parts, all made out of Lego, and the option to build it as either a convertible or with a hardtop roof.

That’s not all though, as the completed model also has an opening bonnet and boot, with a detailed engine that has an actual spinning radiator fan and working tie-rod steering – so that the wheels turn when you move the steering wheel.

There’s also brake, clutch, and accelerator pedals, a gear stick, radio, and rea-view mirror, and while they don’t work – or it’d be an actual car – they’re still impressive authentically. Plus, there’s three different sets of number plates, so you can decide where the car is actually from.

Yep, that’s a Corvette (Picture: Lego)

The set (number 10321) is made up of 1210 Lego pieces and the finished model measures 32cm long and over 10cm high.

It costs £129.99 and it’ll be released on August 4 at Lego stores and the Lego website. Although you can get it a few days early, on August 1, if you’re a Lego VIP member – which is a free sign-up here.
