Legend calls out hypocrisy over Hunt drama
Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater has called the hypocrisy surrounding two of rugby league’s biggest stories at the moment in the sacking of Justin Holbrook and the release request of Ben Hunt.
Many have questioned Hunt’s decision and how he can be allowed to try and leave the club while under contract.
However, Slater put the spotlight on the Justin Holbrook situation and how the process goes both ways when asked about the former Titans coach’s sacking.

“Well I think this is the game isn’t it, the game’s a business and if you don’t get the results well this is what’s in front of you,” he said on Nine’s Sports Sunday.
“It’s disappointing, there’s a lot of talk about Ben Hunt at the moment and shifting clubs and should he be allowed to shift clubs? Well clubs are allowed to sack people at the drop of a hat so why can’t players sack clubs at the drop of a hat?
“You’ve got to have it both ways, but it’s tough because Justin’s obviously put everything into that, because he’s family’s up on the Gold Coast, you live and breathe that job so it’s disappointing for him.”
Slater added he believes Hunt has played his last game for the Dragons.

“More than likely, I don’t think it’s fit for both parties to go on,” he said.

“Once you make that decision, I think there needs to be a process to move on now and like I said, club’s have done it.
“The Dragons have done it, they let Josh Kerr go last week and he played for the Dolphins and there hasn’t been an uproar about that.
“When a player isn’t performing for a club, they’re asked to leave, when a club isn’t performing for a player, why can’t it be the same case?”
