In recent years, the global world has developed, globalisation skyrocketed and with it the global economy. With it, China too has developed and currently has one of the most spoken languages in the world with 1.31 billion chinese speakers. In all modern developments the question has arisen: What advantages will knowing the Chinese language have in the future?

Demands for Chinese speakers in the workplace is at an all time high and naturally the education opportunities to teach our young people Chinese has risen with it especially Degrees at university from Chinese language to sociology from a Chinese perspective. The IOE UCL CI Schools and Universities Day event gathered university representatives from all over the UK and presented a day for A-level Chinese students that was packed with useful information of the study of Chinese.

From leaflets and short talks, university students were able to speak about their rich and completely unique experiences studying the Chinese language and how it has widened their world view and their career prospects.

As said in the event hall filled with university representatives: You may think that studying Chinese narrows down our future options, but in fact, it opens doors.

Martina Quinzo, a student attending the event comments ‘The day was very useful, I wish there were more of these available for every subject and not just Chinese’

The event, she claimed, ‘Showed me all the options I had, like the dual degrees, which I didn’t even know about before this.’

It is evident that the learning of the Chinese language is rich among a new generation of young people not just in London but across the UK.

Rylie Pabroquez, another attending student, described her studies as ‘very useful for my future job prospects, and along with being helpful it is very interesting.’

The development of Chinese learning is accelerating with quick strides. The event spoke of the years abroad to study the various universities offered, and with all these opportunities, who knows what the future of Chinese learning holds.
