Learners get free driving lessons if they meet 2 criteria…here’s how to check

LEARNER drivers could be entitled to free driving lessons – but they have to meet two conditions.

That can make for quite a big saving especially as people are looking to tighten their belt with the ongoing cost of living crisis.

While the cost of driving lessons varies across the country, Carwow.co.uk discovered the average cost of a one-hour lesson was £27.

Many people would benefit from being able to drive in their role as a carer, but not everyone can afford lessons.

However, grants are available for those who satisfy the criteria.

Am I eligible?

Different grants will have different eligibility criteria, but most will want to know:

  • If you care for someone with a disability or chronic illness
  • That being able to drive would really help the person you care for, eg. it would allow you to take them to medical appointments

How to apply?

You can check what support is available for carers in your area and with your background on the Turn2Us website.

Don’t search by ‘driving lessons’, as results aren’t filtered this way.

Rather, input different criteria into the search boxes each time in order to get a comprehensive list grants that you can benefit from.

Even if a fund doesn’t specify help towards lessons, you can always contact them directly to talk about options.

Elsewhere, thousands of people on benefits can get free driving lessons through this little-known scheme.
