Leading insurer reveals cheapest cars to cover in Britain as motoring costs soar

MOTORISTS in Britain are feeling the pinch as the costs associated with driving soar.

Inflation, chip shortages and fuel price rises all contribute today, but insurance has long been a significant cost for drivers.

Leading car insurance firm Admiral has analysed its huge bank of data to reveal the cheapest cars to insure right now.

When it comes to the most popular cars in Britain, the Nissan Qashqai is the cheapest to cover with an average premium of £594.

For those looking at an EV, the MG MG4 is the cheapest electric car with an average premium of £509.

Meanwhile, the Ford Puma is the cheapest small SUV with an average premium of £385.

Age remains a huge factor when it comes to how expensive your insurance premium is.

Admiral’s data revealed the youngest drivers have the highest premiums across all age groups, with the average premium for 17-18-year-olds coming in at £1,207.

Admiral reckons the Volkswagen Up! is the cheapest car for 17-year-olds with an average premium of £1,046.73.

Clare Egan, head of motor product at Admiral said: “There are things that you can do to help keep premiums down, such as considering the type of car you drive, being accurate with your mileage, increasing your excess and paying annually.

“One of the most effective methods for lowering insurance costs for young drivers is telematics or black box insurance.

“These small devices measure how you drive and reward safe drivers with discounted insurance.”
