Laurence Fox’s worried fans urge him to get MRI as he shares health update
Laurence Fox, 44, took to Twitter on May 9 to ask fans for advice on his health after waking up with a sore neck.
The former TV star also complained that his left thumb was “completely numb”.
He tweeted: “I woke up this morning with a sore neck and a completely numb left thumb.
“Am I dying, or am I just a pain in the neck? Help! Medical Twitter!”
The political activist went on to share another tweet featuring a selfie, in which he had a bandage on the right side of his neck.

“Someone needs an MRI…” he wrote on the tweet.
The Lewis actor later shared a snap of himself resting in bed, with the caption: “Thanks for the helpful comments.
“Went to the doctor when my arm started going numb in the afternoon. Trapped nerve apparently. Now have something called lidocaine patches. Right, off to bed. Need sleep.”
The following day, Laurence caused more worries for his fans as he admitted he was still battling pain before an appearance on GB News.
He wrote on May 12: “Join me a 7pm on @GBNEWS to discover whether the dry mouth the painkillers are causing will prevent me from speaking.
“@narindertweets and @Bushra1Shaikh will have more than enough to say to each other, I reckon.
“Taking off neck drug patch, just for you.”
Later that day, Laurence shared a photo of all the medication he was taking, but then woke up the next morning with more symptoms, telling his followers: “Now have pins and needles down the back of my left leg and behind the knee.
“This trapped nerve thing is a blast…”
In another update, Laurence wrote: “Lunch today. MRI tomorrow. Fortunately I don’t suffer from severe claustrophobia. Which is a real bonus…”
However, the star sparked even more concern when he declared the MRI would be a “waste of cash”, after finding out it would cost him £899 for a private medical scan.
He posted: “So @BupaUK are the only medical insurer who won’t take a referral from my quack, so it’s either fork out £899 for a MRI or get a another referral. What a waste of cash. Will read the fine print when I change insurer. Am going to be on some seriously strong drugs for a while.”
After Laurence’s apparent refusal to get the MRI straight away, his fans were quick to warn him otherwise, with one writing: “You need an mri asap. I don’t want to worry you. But this happened to me. I also had pain in my shoulder couldn’t move my neck. Worse at night. I went through weeks of using painkillers. I woke up one day paralysed in my left arm.
“Went to a/e as I thought I’d had a stroke or something. It was a tumour on my cranial nerve which was growing inside my spinal cord at the base of my skull. I hadn’t noticed the muscle wastage on my arm compared to the other one. My arm was so thin. The nerves were cut off. If you have odd sensations in your arm and hand. You really need to get it checked. Don’t wait.”
Another agreed: “Exactly what happened to me seeing a neurologist orthopaedic said my neck was damaged.”
