Laura Whitmore ‘never stayed’ at Iain Stirling’s home in early days of dating
Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore has confessed she once found her husband Iain Stirling’s home to be an ‘absolute s***hole‘ when they first started dating.
Laura and the Scottish Love Island narrator, who share a daughter together, married in December 2020 after dating for three years.
The pair began dating in 2016, after meeting at an ITV party through mutual friend Ore Oduba – who had appeared on Strictly Come Dancing alongside Laura.
However, Laura has now confessed she wasn’t impressed by her husband’s home at the beginning of their relationship.
The 37-year-old appeared on radio presenter Melvin Odoom’s podcast, Melvin Meets His Match, where she revealed: ‘Iain lived in an absolute s***hole,’ adding that she ‘never stayed’ at his home.
She continued: ‘I went there once and he was mortified, I went there because he was so sick and he was flying on a job, so I had to drive him. He was so ill and he had to get on a plane.
‘I was like, “I will go in and grab your bag,” and he was like, “No, don’t!”‘
Laura explained what his bedroom was like at the time, saying: ‘He lived in what can only be described as like a bedsit and basically you know like bunk beds, his bed was like a bent bunk bed, so it was like one of those where one room is everything, the kitchen and everything.’
She continued: ‘The bed was over the wardrobe, so he couldn’t sit up in the bed.
‘I never stayed there! There was no toothbrush to be left there, I wouldn’t leave my toothbrush there, I don’t want a drawer!’
Elsewhere in the podcast, Laura admitted that despite Iain being ‘amazing, smart, funny and handsome’, in her eyes, ‘he has the worst dress sense,’ when the pair met.
She jokingly added: ‘Its improved a little bit… they say you can’t change a man, that’s a lie!’
Laura has hosted Love Island since January 2020, taking over from the late Caroline Flack.
Iain has been commenting on the antics in the villa since 2015, before his then-girlfriend joined the show and cemented them as the ultimate TV power couple.
Laura has previously revealed that Iain had later slipped into her DMs before they started dating, but she was the one who plucked up the courage and made the first move, as he was ‘too nervous’ to ask her out.
After three years of dating, Laura and Iain tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Dublin in 2020.
It’s reported the couple’s small affair was attended by 25 guests, which was the maximum amount at the time under Ireland’s lockdown restrictions.
The ceremony took place at Dublin’s City Hall in secret, however the couple didn’t confirm they’d taken their vows until 2021.
Iain shared several snaps from her wedding and revealed some of the romantic backstory to their big day.
She penned: ‘A year ago Iain asked me to marry him and we had the most magical, perfect ceremony. We loved having it to ourselves.
‘We had been planning the perfect celebration and I will forever be so thankful that’s what we got. We have never spoken publicly about our engagement or wedding. Back at the time we never felt the need to say anything as it’s all such a personal experience.’
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
