Latinos dominate Mister Global tilt; Philippine bet wins Best National Costume
MANILA, Philippines — Latin American delegates landed on the third highest spots at the recently-concluded Mister Global competition held at the Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Feb. 11, with Juan Carlos Ariosa from Cuba taking home the top title.
Oscar Guerrero from Colombia settled for the first runner-up spot, while William Gama from Brazil was proclaimed second runner-up. Thirty-nine aspirants competed in the contest.
Ariosa, who also took home the Mister Photogenic Award, inherited the Mister Global title from Vietnamese Danh Chieu Linh who finished second in the previous competition.
Miguel Angel Lucas from Spain was proclaimed Mister Global in the competition’s seventh edition held in March last year, also in Thailand. But in September, the organization announced that he is relinquishing his duties as titleholder, and then declared Danh to take over the remainder of his reign.
Lucas was in the Philippines in June last year to help confer the Mister Global Philippines title at the Mister International Philippines competition. He bestowed it upon Mark Avendaño, who was first runner-up in the national contest.
Avendaño, meanwhile, received the Best National Costume award at the international competition. He showcased a jeepney inspired costume at the preliminary contest held before the final competition.
Two other Asians were recognized in the global tilt. “Best Charming” winner Kim Hee Won from South Korea and host delegate Setthapan Thongsuk both finished in the Top 5.
Ariosa will have a truncated reign as Mister Global. The international organization announced during the final competition that the contest’s ninth edition will be held in November later this year, also in Thailand.
Avendaño is a Marketing Management Student from San Beda University. He is the fourth delegate to be sent by the Mister International Philippines organization to a global tilt. Top winner Myron Jude Ordillano was fifth runner-up at the 14th Mister International contest held in the Philippines, while fourth runner-up Andre Cue was proclaimed “Best Body” at the second Caballero Universal contest held in Venezuela. John Ernest Tanting, a semifinalist in the national tilt, was reported to have been proclaimed as Mister Beauté Internationale in Turkey.
Second runner-up Michael Ver Comaling will represent the Philippines in the Mister National Universe competition later this, while third runner-up Kitt Cortez will participate in the Mister Tourism International contest. EDV
