Lando Norris taunts Lewis Hamilton with cheeky dig ahead of British Grand Prix

Lando Norris has fired a cheeky dig at Lewis Hamilton ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix. Norris joked that Hamilton needed to stay “within the track limits” a week on from the seven-time champion picking up penalties in Austria.

In Spielberg, Norris’ comments on his team radio drew attention to Hamilton crossing the white lines on several occasions. The Mercedes star was furious after he was hit with a five-second penalty and was slapped with another punishment hours after the race.

Norris made the remark when he was asked who would be the top Brit at Silverstone. McLaren edged out Mercedes in Austria after a brilliant fightback from the British constructor.

Norris replied: “It depends if Lewis keeps it within the track limits. I’m hoping for a fight. I think if we can fight with Mercedes we will be happy. I think last weekend Mercedes just had a pretty tough weekend.

“Through the rest of it they’ve been quicker than us in every single race this season in qualifying so if we can race with Mercedes it will be good. I want to be confident and say me. I think after FP1, FP2 we will be able to get a good read on where we stand and if it’s close enough to Mercedes, I’m looking forward to Sunday to see who can come out on top.”

Hamilton vented his anger at race stewards policing of track limits penalties during last week’s race. The 38-year-old even followed Norris’ footsteps as he repeatedly highlighted Sergio Perez’s possible transgressions.

He moaned: “Since they’re handing them out now, he’s exceeding limits every lap!” Hamilton’s temper eventually led Toto Wolff to take over the microphone from race engineer Peter Bonnington to calm down his leading driver.

Norris’ remark is the second aimed at Hamilton in the space of a week. After the race, the McLaren star joked that Hamilton had seemingly gotten away lightly after noticing a series of corner cuts.

He told Sky Sports F1: “He only got a five-second penalty… it should’ve been way more.” Race officials had obviously heard the assessment with Hamilton hit with a further ten-second deduction hours after the race.

This dropped Hamilton behind team-mate George Russell to P8 in the Austrian GP standings.
