Lady Margarita has ‘less arrogant personality’ than Princess Margaret

Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, 20, has done a photoshoot with Tatler to celebrate her upcoming 21st birthday. In November 2022, Margarita stepped out at the Tatler Little Black Book Party wearing a gorgeous faux fur coat from Michael Kors, which was a “homage” to her late grandmother Princess Margaret, according to a body language expert.

The custom Michael Kors design was likely inspired by a coat Princess Margaret, then 21 years old, wore to the Captain Horatio Hornblower film premiere in 1951.

On April 12, 1951, the glitzy movie premiere took place in Leicester Square. The late Princess, who died suddenly after a stroke in 2002, wore a pink sequin-encrusted V-neck, long-sleeved dress underneath her fur cloak.

This sparkly dress was similar to the one also worn by Lady Margarita in November underneath her Michael Kors coat.

Judi James, a professional body language expert spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the similarities between Lady Margarita and her late grandmother.

She said: “Margarita seems keen to channel her grandmother’s stylish elegance and show-stopping body language.

“But the signals here suggest this is more of a homage than something that runs in her DNA.”

According to the expert, although the clothes are almost identical, the two women’s body language is not the exact same.

Judi explained: “The fur stole is a direct lift but, at a similar age, the projection of confidence is different.

“Margaret tended to keep her chin down to work the camera with her powerful eye contact and knowing smile.

“Meanwhile, Margarita raised her chin in a gesture of a more acted-looking regal elegance.”

According to Judi, Lady Margarita is “her own woman” which represents a key difference from her late grandmother.

She opined: “There are similarly intrinsic differences in the fashion shoot that suggest Margarita might be her own woman when it comes to behaviour and personality, rather than inheriting the often haughty Margaret’s love of shocking people and over-promoting her status.

“Margarita might have tried a 50s icon fashion look here but her hands hint at a less arrogant personality.

“She appears to ‘hold’ the stair rail and her hip here, rather than draping her hands in the style of the day.”

Judi argues that because of the strict rules and protocols that consumed Princess Margaret’s life, Margarita has the advantage of feeling free.

She continued: “Margarita looks a lot more relaxed and like her ‘true’ self in the pose in the cream feathered gown where she is laughing and enjoying herself in a more modern way.

“Margaret was probably never out of a pose like this in her life, but Margarita looks like a much more modern young woman here.”

Princess Margaret, who died at the age of 71 in 2002, married Antony Armstrong-Jones back in 1960.

Their son, the current Earl of Snowdon, is the father of Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, named after her late grandmother. Margarita was born in May 2002, just two months after the death of her grandmother.

She grew up in royal circles, as she was one of the bridesmaids at Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding in 2011 when she was just eight years old.
