Lady Gaga went to extreme lengths to stay in character on Joker sequel set

Lady Gaga had an interesting way of channelling the character of Harley Quinn while filming for the upcoming Joker sequel Folie a Deux.

The singer, 37, made her big screen debut in the Oscar-winning A Star Is Born in 2018, and now she is heading into the world of superheroes in her role in the eagerly-anticipated DC film.

She will appear alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role as she takes on the role of iconic villain Harley, who was last played by Barbie star Margot Robbie.

To get into character, the Born This Way hitmaker insisted on being called ‘Lee’ while on set, according to the film’s cinematographer Larry Sher.

‘I didn’t know Stefani at all,’ he told The Trenches Talk podcast, referring to Gaga’s real name, Stefani Germanotta.

‘Strangely, I felt like I never even met her, even during the makeup/hair tests. Maybe it was my philosophy of not trying to get in their space. And then I remember for a week, being like, “God, I feel like we are disconnecting. Not even connecting. We are like on opposites.”

‘And I would say to my crew, “Jesus, I can’t crack it. She either hates me or we hate each other. There’s something weird going on here.”‘

Sher, who also worked as a cinematographer on the first Joker film, then revealed he cracked the key to striking up a friendship with the actor.

‘I barely said anything, except I would say, “Stefani, this is where your second team was,” minor little things, and then the AD at one point said, “Oh you know, Stef would like if you just called her Lee on set,’” Sher continued,

‘And I was like, 100%. The next thing I said was something “Lee,” and it was like everything changed. From that point on, it was like she was… Our whole connection changed. I was like, alright, cool.’

The star recently had her $500,000 dog reward lawsuit thrown out after a woman connected to the theft of her French Bulldogs and the shooting of her dog walker had a lawsuit over the reward.

Jennifer McBride had been suing the popstar over the reward for the return of her two stolen dogs which she turned in, but Gaga refused to pay her the money.

This is because the woman pled no contest to a charge of receiving stolen property leading to a two-year probation sentence after originally claiming to have found the dogs tied up following the theft.

In February, McBride sued Gaga after not receiving the cash reward when she returned the animals, alleging the artist made it ‘very clear’ there would be ‘no questions asked.’

However, Gaga’s attorney stated in court papers: ‘Plaintiff Jennifer McBride seeks to profit from her participation in a crime.’

‘The law does not allow a person to commit a crime and then profit from it,’ the papers, obtained by CBS News, continued.
