Hands up: who still isn’t using SPF everyday?
It’s one of the few defences we have that is proven to prevent skin cancer, and yet so many of us are lax with our application.
In a bid to make the nation more sun aware as the weather warms up, skincare brand La Roche Posay will be launching a pop-up in Westfield, offering free expert advice and samples.
Consultant dermatologist, Dr Hiva Fassihi, will be on hand with her wealth of knowledge on moles and skin damage.
When we recently had a mole check with her to test the check-ins out, she left us feeling empowered and wiser, as well as clearer on what changes to look out for in moles.
Other leading dermatologists will be there too, all to help people feel more confident in the health of their skin.
There will be free mole checks on offer, as well as general advice around sun safety given out. Free products will be up for grabs, too.
The brand says: ‘Sun exposure influences the number of moles that can appear on the skin, as well as their size.
‘However, the more moles a person has, the greater their risk of developing a skin cancer, since 35% of skin cancers actually develop from a pre-existing mole.’
Running for a week from 10am-9pm most days, beginning Monday June 12, anyone can go up and claim their free check in with a derm and samples.
Good habits for high protection during sun exposure, according to La Roche Posay:
As 50 to 70% of skin cancers are caused by overexposure to UVA and UVB rays, it is essential to follow a few simple rules in addition to applying sun cream:
- Avoid exposing yourself to the sun between the hours of 12pm and 4pm
- Opt for shade rather than direct exposure
- Reapply sunscreen every two hours
- Reduce children’s sun exposure as much as possible because their skin is much more sensitive than adults’ skin. Clothes (hats, t-shirts and sunglasses) are still the best protection against UV rays
Based outside the Boots store on the ground floor in Westfield White City, checks will happen Monday – Saturday from 10am-9pm, and Sunday 12pm-6pm.
