Kyrgios unloads on umpire after contentious tie-break call

Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has registered his third consecutive defeat, crashing out of the Canadian Open in the first round after a 4-6 7-6 6-4 loss to American Rilley Opelka.

But it’s a controversial moment during a tense second set tie-break that has turned heads after the Aussie took umbrage when Opelka appeared to touch the net when scores were tied at 4-4.

Never one to back away from letting his feelings known, Kyrgios pressed the matter with the umpire but found little in way of having the crucial point overturned.

“What are you watching? I saw his foot touch the net and you’re not going to call it,” Kyrgios said to the umpire.

“What else could you be watching, bro? I can see his foot touch the net from where I am, and you don’t call anything. It’s a joke, bro. It cost me the f—ing set. Bulls—.”

The back-and-forth was met with jeers from the Toronto crowd as Kyrgios launched a tennis ball in frustration into the stands.

Opelka went on to win the tie-break 7-4 and eventually the match in a third a final set.
