Kylian Mbappe could earn more in a year than Tiger Woods and LeBron James

Kylian Mbappe could become the world’s highest paid athlete of all time if he decides to move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The French striker has been offered a multi-million pound deal to join Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal, which would see him not only eclipse what some of sport’s biggest names earn in a year, but in a lifetime.

The deal would see PSG earn a world record transfer fee of a reported £259million. The Parisian club were the last team to break the record back in 2017 when they signed Neymar from Barcelona for £191m.

While the Ligue 1 franchise would enjoy a considerable fortune from the deal, it’s nothing in comparison to what their star striker would make. A staggering contract worth £11.57m a week has been propsed, which adds up to over £584m a year.

Breaking it down even further, Mbappe could take home:

  • £1.69m-a-day
  • £69,091-an-hour
  • £1,149-a-minute
  • £18-a-second

Such a contract would make Mbappe the highest earning athlete of all time, by a long way. The deal not only surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo’s £172m a year at Saudi side Al-Nassr, but it completely overshadows the amount which other sporting legends have earned in their lifetimes.

In comparison, LeBron James’ all-time NBA earnings have seen him take home around £413m. Over £150m less than the 24-year-old soccer star could earn in just a year.

With seven Super Bowl championships to his name, NFL icon Tom Brady has earned £258m in his career. But it’s still almost half of Mbappe’s proposed yearly wage.

Even American golfer Tiger Woods is struggling to keep up with what Al Hilal is offering. Thanks to his 82 PGA Tour wins and almost three decades on the world’s greatest greens Woods has earned £122m, a mere drop in the ocean in comparison.

What’s even more astonishing is that the 24-year-old could earn more in one year than a whole professional team. The New York Mets’ entire payroll sits around £293m, nearly £300m less than Mbappe.

While the deal is yet to be completed or agreed, Mbappe has responded to the rumors after two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokoumpo reacted to the deal on Twitter “Al Hilal you can take me,” he tweeted. “I look like Kylian Mbappe,” which saw the French striker react with a series of laughing emojis.
