KV’s to give admission to children who have lost both the parents in corona – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: At a time when thousands of kids across the country had lost both of their parents because of pandemic and countrymen along with the government have extended all support to such kids, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan (KVS) too has come forward for the noble cause.

On the direction of the central government, KVS has decided to give admission to such students across the country under the PM CARES for Children Scheme. These kids would be admitted in different classes as per their age and their admission would be over and above the strength of the respective class.

Moreover, these kids would be provided education free of cost, right from class 1 to 12 wherein he or she would be exempted from tuition fee, Vidyalya Vikas Nidhi (VVN) charges etc. The admission under this category would be given by the KV concerned on the recommendation of the district magistrate of the district. The DM can recommend a maximum of 10 students per school with a rider of two students per class.
To implement the decision of the government, the admission guidelines of KVS which is presently running over 1200 odd schools across the country along with three at foreign soil including Kathmandu, Tehran and Moscow, have been changed. The additional clause mentions giving admission to such children who have lost both of their parents or adoptive parents or legal guardians due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Commissioner (academics) of KVS, has instructed all the Regional Offices (RO’s) about admission under the PM CARES for Children Scheme. The letter mentions that RO’s should instruct the principals under their region to coordinate with the respective DM so that such children can be granted admission in age appropriate class.

A list of 4058 registered eligible beneficiaries under PM Cares Children Scheme have been received from Ministry of Education and the same has been sent to the RO’s which has now been shared with principals. An official of the region would be designated as nodal officer for coordination with stakeholders for admission of the children under the scheme.

Sources inform that there are around a dozen children from Prayagraj who are eligible to be admitted under the said scheme.

Commenting on the issue, assistant commissioner, Varanasi region, B Dayal said, “The DM, of the district concerned, have been given the list of the children who would be benefitted as per the scheme and KV’s would admit such kids as per the recommendation of the DM”.

DM, Prayagraj, Sanjay Kumar Khatri said, “Although I am not aware of this letter but the administration would abide by the instructions of the government and make sure that the children, mentioned in the letter, are admitted in KV of their own choice for which Prayagraj administration would be giving all the needed support”.
