Kuo says under-display Touch ID and a foldable iPhone are both pushed back one year
Kuo’s note also stated that the 2022 iPhone will feature a punch-hole in place of the notch and a 48MP camera will be part of the camera array (possibly on the Pro models only). Next year’s lineup is expected to include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
If a render recently disseminated by a Twitter tipster is correct, the iPhone 14 line, as Kuo says, will get rid of the notch and add a hole-punch camera.
In his note, Kuo states that the delay of under-display Touch ID and the foldable iPhone will “hurt iPhone shipments in 2022 and 2023.” As far as a foldable iPhone is concerned, one reason to expect a clamshell design would be to prevent cannibalization of the iPad lineup. That’s because a clamshell foldable is a small device when closed possibly with a small external screen for notifications, messages, phone calls, and more.
