Despite a spirited effort, Swarmz was unable to overcome the odds against KSI in the first of two bouts for the British YouTube star tonight. KSI — whose real name is JJ Olatunji — stopped the rapper in the second round as Swarmz ran and span around the ring.
Prior to the fight, True Geordie affirmed that Swarmz “had more chance of finding a winning lottery ticket on the way to the ring than winning the fight,” and the popular YouTuber wasn’t far off in his estimation. Coming in on 20 days’ notice with no prior boxing experience, Swarmz was a heavy underdog and victory was always a tall order.
As the fight commenced, the hip-hop artist went into survival mode almost instantly after a clean right hand snapped his head back in the opening few seconds of the contest. Clearly keen not to taste another thudding shot, Swarmz span around the ring frantically as commentator Todd Grisham joked that he was “doing more spinning than the tea cup rides at Disneyland.”
But the novice boxer appeared to be enjoying himself as he laughed and jeered at his opponent.
After the contest, KSI said of the fight: “He was moving a fair bit. Doing little swirly bits. Once he felt my power he was like ‘oh,’ but I got the knockout and now I’ll move on to the next one – ladies and gentlemen thank you very much and I’ll be back in a bit!”
Olatunji now moves on to his second fight of the evening against 2-5 professional boxer Luis Pineda in three hours’ time.
