Kostya Tszyu’s bold plan for Tim to achieve global stardom
Boxing legend Kostya Tszyu has declared he’s eyeing off a future bout to take place in Russia for his son, Tim.
Tim Tszyu is looking to continue his unbeaten professional record by notching his 20th win when he takes on Japanese star Takeshi Inoue next week.
The 27-year-old is currently the WBO’s mandatory challenger for Brian Castano’s belt.
Tszyu’s legendary father, who’s now based in Russia, said that if his son can eventually take ownership of the Castano’s belt, a fight in Russia would be next.
“This is going to happen,” Kostya told Sydney Morning Herald
“We have talked about this for a long time. It’s going to be something special that the family will never forget. It will be a dream come true.
“It’s going to get big attention here and [in Australia]. He has to beat Castano and then he can come over here.”
Tim Tszyu, who was born in Sydney, is of Russian heritage due to his father’s background.
Kostya Tszyu said he was confident he could work with his son’s promoter, No Limit Boxing, to ensure that a title fight takes place in Russia.
“We could do a co-promotion,” Kostya said. “There is no reason why we can’t do this. It would mean a lot to me and to a lot of people.
“Tim lives in Australia but this is something he wants to do. We have been talking about doing this; it would be good to finally do it.”
