Kim’s Kitchen: Heart Evangelista’s secret weapon is new big thing in Philippine nutrition
When Heart Evangelista — now in her mid-30’s — told United Kingdom-certified, Filipina nutrition specialist Kimberly King that she wanted to get her early 20’s body back, Kim put together a cutting-edge, science-based meal plan for her and the results were breathtaking. Heart lost a whopping 32 lbs. in under four months without spending a single minute at the gym, with zero surgeries or operations, all the while shockingly allowing for Heart to have the occasional croissant in Paris or bowl of pasta in Milan.
When former UFC fighter and “Pride of the Philippines” Mark Mugen Striegl was booked for a big MMA fight earlier this year, he needed to drop 24 lbs. in just five weeks — all without losing any strength, speed or athletic explosiveness. What did he do? Like Heart, he went straight to Kim’s Kitchen. Kim then designed a brilliant nutrition plan and got him to his goal; a process Mark recalls as “delicious, precise and completely free of the feeling of hunger.”
When new supermom Anne Curtis wanted to shed weight for her big comeback concert, Kim put her on a fully organic OMAD LCHP program (one-meal-a-day, low-carb-high-protein). Today many health and wellness professionals say Anne looks more beautiful as a mother than she ever has in her decades-long career and is an inspiration for all new moms who think that achieving their pre-baby weight is an impossibility. (It isn’t.) “There’s a difference when you’re being guided by a true expert,” says a close friend.
When three-time Spartan Race World Championship competitor Gabb Rosario wanted to win his first triathlon, his objectives with Kim’s Kitchen were clear: “Optimize my performance through weight management”. To get there, Kim put together a cleverly designed meal plan focused on 1,500 calories per day, ensuring the inclusion of complex carbs to provide the necessary energy for his intense training, and without sacrificing taste or the other pleasures that food commonly brings. Gabb won the race. Since aligning with Kim’s Kitchen, he’s taken home two gold medals and one silver in major triathlons, alongside five podium finishes for the global Spartan franchise.
So when it was said that Kim’s Kitchen was “Heart Evangelista’s secret weapon”, no, it was not hyperbolic or exaggerated. Perhaps the only imprecise thing about the headline was that, apart from Heart, there are a lot more people — ranging from your top-tier athletes and gym enthusiasts to your friendly neighborhood housewives and students — who rely on Kim heavily for the food they eat to realize their health and fitness goals.
Ma. Teresa Kimberly Epil King — more popularly known as @brothqueen on Instagram and as Kim King to friends and family — isn’t just a UK-certified nutrition specialist; she is a pioneering biohacker, a trained chef, and a devoted mother to three daughters and one son. She’s married to well-known and highly successful businessman Atticus King, who she says shares her “deep desire to revolutionize the wellness landscape of the Philippines”.
One of the things that Kim is most known for on social media is that she’s been able to successfully pioneer the “bone broth” supertrend which has recently taken Manila by storm. People who are familiar with intermittent fasting understand its undeniable benefits, but also recognize that it can be challenging at times to start (or restart) the habit, particularly when it comes to getting inexperienced friends involved. Kim has been able to solve this problem by creating tasty bone broth recipes (the most popular of which are soups in jars made of beef, chicken, clams or vegetables) that help the faster tremendously at keeping away from solid foods by quelling the hunger for days at a time.
Heart Evangelista, for example, did a three-day cleanse using Kim’s bone broth and immediately lost five pounds. “It tastes great!” Heart said. Thereafter, Kim incorporated Heart’s daily broth jars with three lean protein meals on some days (all prepared by Kim’s Kitchen) and pure fasts on days after cheat meals. Heart’s incredible progress — which was video-documented and available for public viewing on the Kim’s Kitchen website — saw her go from 124 lbs. to stunning 92 lbs. in a little over three months.
Today, Kim’s bone broths range from all the abovementioned to the newly added gut elixers and beauty broths, and even broths for pets. All the broth recipes are rich in nutrients, minerals, collagen and amino acids that reduce inflammation, increased immunity and heal the gut lining.
Apart from being an Ateneo graduate, Kim has been cooking since the age of four, trained to specialize in whole foods, seasonal fruits and fasting, and is the only mom in St. Luke’s history (out of thousands) to give birth without needing to be sugar-tested.
The Kim’s Kitchen clientele also includes Karen Davila, Iya Villania, Coleen Garcia, Jessy Mendiola and Cat Arambulo-Antonio.
