Kim Kardashian named ‘Fashion Icon’ at People’s Choice Awards

The Kardashian family’s contribution to pop culture has been endless and award shows are now recognising their massive influence.

This week, Kim Kardashian was awarded the Fashion Icon award at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards. The reality TV star and founder of KKW Beauty said she was honoured to receive this recognition.

“I’m so humbled and honoured and the people who voted!!! Also [a] special thank you to Demna and the Balenciaga team for a year of iconic looks….I meant to include [it] in my speech last night but we ran out of time.”

People’s Choice Awards celebrate the best in movies, TV, music and pop culture, and the winners are chosen solely by the fans.

Other winners included actress Halle Berry, awarded with the People’s Icon award, entertainment powerhouse Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who won the People’s Champion award and musician Christina Aguilera, who was awarded the first-ever Music Icon award.

Kim had an iconic year in fashion looks, especially when the star turned many heads with her all-black Balenciaga outfit at the Met Gala earlier this year.

‘American T-shirt’

During fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala, Kim decided to honour the country’s T-shirt.

The all-black Balenciaga look wasn’t understood at first, and people also didn’t realise it was Kim wearing the all-black cover-up.

The Balenciaga T-shirt broke the internet as many people tried to replicate the outfit with hilarious results.

Vatican City

Kim’s revealing all-white Barragán’s fall 2020 runway dress divided opinion as it was considered inappropriate because of the location she visited – Vatican City – headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. 

On her visit, she posted: “It was amazing to be able to view all of the iconic art, architecture and ancient Roman sculptures in person, especially Michelangelo’s works. We even had an opportunity to view their private archive of robes worn by every pope in history, dating back to the 1500s.”

The dress was intricately designed, revealing certain parts of her back and stomach.

All black

There was a clear trend that Kim’s fashion looks were changing, particularly the time when she supported her soon-to-be ex-hubby Ye during his promotional tour of DONDA.

Kim wore a couple of head-to-toe black Balenciaga outfits. This style evolution was inspired by the relationship she developed with the creative director of the fashion house, Demna Gvasalia.
