Kim Cattrall reunites with Sex And The City stars after slamming reboot

Kim Cattrall had a mini Sex And The City reunion just shortly after making her views on the iconic show’s reboot very clear.

The actress, 65, starred in SATC from 1998 until 2004, playing Samantha Jones, a sassy, sex-positive PR professional, famous for her killer wisecracks.

And Just Like That premiered last year, but Kim declined the opportunity to take part, despite appearing in the 2008 SATC film and its 2010 sequel.

Instead, the subsequent televised revival featured the former foursome as a trio, as Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprised their roles.

But it seems there’s no hard feelings between Kim and some of her old friends, despite her slamming of And Just Like That’s ‘creativity.’

Kim was an honorary guest at Variety’s 2022 Power of Women event in New York on Thursday night, where the How I Met Your Father star met up with former colleagues from her time on the HBO show.

Kim reunited SATC series creator Darren Star, costume designer Patricia Field; and Candace Bushnell, who wrote the column and book which the series was based on.

The star looked happy as Larry as she beamed while playfully posing for photos with her old chums, looking chic in a black suited ensemble.

Kim was recognised for her work with The Actors Fund at the bash, and chatted about what it meant to her to have her former SATC colleagues join her there.

She told People ‘it means absolutely everything,’ considering how close they once were.

‘We spent over 25 years of our lives together,’ Kim added, going on to say how much she missed working with Patricia and having her style her outfits, after the designer won an Emmy for her creations.

While that all sounds very rosy, Kim didn’t hold back when expressing her opinions on the SATC reboot after reading the script for the third unreleased movie.

The project was going to feature the storyline of Big dying as played out in the show, so Kim told Variety that ‘the series is basically the third movie’, quipping: ‘That’s how creative it was.’

While Kim wasn’t a part of the programme, Samantha was still referenced in passing, such as when it was revealed that Carrie and Samantha had fallen out after Carrie stopped paying her to be her publicist and when the characters exchanged text messages.

Kim also has not actually watched And Just Like That, but said that she ‘heard’ about the plot point of Carrie and Samantha’s feud, stating: ‘Well, that feels different than the Samantha that I played.’

She feels very strongly about not reprising the role of Samantha, saying that she would still very much say ‘no’ if offered the opportunity once again.

But, Kim understands people’s love for her character, and acknowledged that it’s ‘powerful’ that so many fans wanted more from her.

‘The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean,’ she said, adding that it ‘feels like an echo of the past.’

Addressing how And Just Like That has continued her character’s story without her, she noted: ‘It’s odd, isn’t it? I don’t know how to feel about it. It’s so finite for me, so it doesn’t continue.’
