Kevin Spacey a ‘sexual bully’, the court hears

Actor Kevin Spacey, who is charged with sex offences against four men, has been described as a “sexual bully” by Prosecutor Christine Agnew KC.

The Hollywood star, who has appeared in films such as American Beauty and Baby Driver, has previously denied 12 charges, including sexual assault and indecent assault, alleged to have been committed between 2001 and 2013.

The prosecution opened the case against the Oscar-winner during the trial held at Southwark Crown Court today by calling him “a man who sexually assaults other men”.

She told jurors Spacey was “a man who it would seem delights in making others feel powerless and uncomfortable, a sexual bully.

“His preferred method of assault is it appears to grab aggressively other men in the crotch.

“On one occasion things went further than that.”

In her opening speech, Agnew began: “Kevin Spacey Fowler is an actor; many of you will already know that.

“He is an extremely famous actor who has won a number of awards.

“He has starred in many movies and television serials.

“He is a citizen of the United States of America who for some time in the 1990s and 2000s was living in the United Kingdom, in London.

“He is also, the prosecution allege, a man who sexually assaults other men.

“A man who does not respect personal boundaries or space, a man who it would seem delights in making others feel powerless and uncomfortable, a sexual bully.”

She later added that the jury would hear from four men during the trial, all in their 20s or 30s, who would speak about their experiences of the actor.

In the statement, she later added that “none of the men wanted to be touched” and claimed Spacey “did what he wanted to do for his own personal sexual gratification.”

The actor is known for starring in hits like House Of Cards and The Usual Suspects, and was the artistic director at The Old Vic theatre in London between 2004 and 2015.

He has an address in Waterloo, south London, but also lives in the US, where he has family and a dog.

The trial continues.
