Matildas superstar Sam Kerr broke Tim Cahill’s national goalscoring record by finding the back of the net five times in an extraordinary 18-0 rout of Indonesia on Friday night.
Kerr broke Cahill’s record of 50 goals in the 12th minute before getting greedy and finishing with a career tally of 54 in Australia’s opening match of the Asian Cup in Mumbai.
“We put our foot on the gas from the first minute until the last minute,” Kerr said.

“I think today was a good start but I think we still have a long way to go until we are at our best.”
It was one of those days where you feel a little ill if you don’t get on the scoresheet.
While Kerr, as usual, led the way with her five, Emily van Egmond netted four, Hayley Raso, Ellie Carpenter and Kyah Simon grabbed doubles while Caitlin Foord, Mary Fowler and Aivi Luik also found the back of the net.
