Kerala schools closed as IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In response to an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), authorities in Kerala have taken precautionary measures, declaring a holiday for all educational institutes in Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts on July 24.

The IMD issued the orange alert for these districts, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram.
The situation in Kerala has worsened following very heavy downpours on July 8. As a result, authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions to ensure the safety of residents. Despite the orange alert, the Kannur University Public Service Commission (PSC) exams are still scheduled to proceed as planned.

Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, is also facing heavy rains and a flood-like situation in low-lying areas due to the swollen Yamuna river. The Yamuna River in Delhi has crossed the danger mark again, leading to concerns about the possibility of floods in the capital city. The administration is urging residents in low-lying areas to vacate as a precautionary measure.
Authorities in both Kerala and Delhi are actively monitoring the weather and flood situations to minimize potential risks and ensure the safety of citizens. It is essential for residents in the affected regions to stay alert, follow official advisories, and take necessary precautions to cope with the challenging weather conditions.
