Kenny Golladay searching for first Giants touchdown amid ‘frustrating’ season

The calendar probably can’t turn to 2022 fast enough for Kenny Golladay.

The Giants’ $72 million free-agent signing enters the final two games of the regular season with just 34 receptions and zero touchdown catches in 11 appearances during an injury-hampered first season in New York.

“Of course, it’s been kind of frustrating just with the ups and downs, not being able to be available for the entire season,” Golladay said Thursday. “It’s frustrating, but I’m just going to continue to come to work each and every week.”

Golladay led the NFL with 11 TD grabs in 2019 for Detroit, and the fifth-year receiver would like to end his personal shutout and get into the end zone at least once over the Giants’ final two games, beginning Sunday against the Bears.

He missed much of training camp due to a hamstring issue and a few games in October due to a knee injury.

“My body does feel pretty good right now,” Golladay said. “I guess I’m just embracing it. I can’t go and change anything.

“I think anybody would get a little frustrated, but it’s a lot that goes on with trying to get receptions and everything. Everybody plays a role in it.”

The Giants will be without wide receiver Darius Slayton against the Bears after he tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Rookie Kadarius Toney (shoulder) also appears unlikely to play after he missed practice for a second straight day. Offensive lineman Korey Cunningham and practice squad linebacker Omari Cobb also tested positive.

Offensive tackle Nate Solder, who was cleared from the COVID reserve list, was limited in practice. “We’ll see where he is physically. I wouldn’t say anything would rule him in or out for Sunday [yet],” head coach Joe Judge said.

Offensive line coach Rob Sale declined comment on reports that he’s being considered to join new Florida coach Billy Napier’s staff with the Gators. “Right now I’m getting ready for the Bears. I’m not talking about that,” Sale said.

DL Leonard Williams doesn’t expect to need offseason surgery on his injured triceps, saying he wants to avoid it “at all costs.”
