Keith Richards in cheeky quip to Mick Jagger as star celebrates landmark day

Rolling Stones star Keith Richards has cheekily wished his bandmate Sir Mick Jagger a happy birthday, taking a sly dig at the fact he is younger than him.

The lead singer of the legendary band turns 80 today and 79-year-old Keith wasn’t going to let him forget that he had still to reach that milestone.

In a video posted to his Instagram page, which boasts 1.4 million followers, he sat at the piano before addressing the camera for the greeting.

“Hey Mick, hey son. I guess long may we keep saying this to each other,” he laughed.

“Happy birthday Mick. You know have another good ‘un,” he said before joking: “And give me a call, let me know what it’s like!”

Fellow bandmate Ronnie Wood also jumped in on the birthday bandwagon also using Instagram to pay tribute to his bandmate.

He posted a series of pictures to his 750,000 followers showing the pair of them through the years. He also included an image of a painting he did of the iconic frontman.

For his part Sir Mick resisted the urge to gush about his big day in an over-the-top manner. Instead, he took to his Instagram to post a simple portrait where he looks sleek in a burgundy suit with a black and white polka dot top, taken by Mark Seliger.

Writing to his 2.8 million followers, he simply captioned it: “Thanks so much for all your lovely comments and birthday wishes.”

Despite reaching an age where most people are happy to sit back and relax, father of seven Sir Mick and the band show no sign of slowing down.

Last year they undertook an extensive 60th anniversary tour – their first without drummer Charlie Watts, who died aged 80 in 2021 – which included two dates in London’s Hyde Park.

They have also been diligently working on a new album for the past several years.

Although he underwent a heart valve replacement in 2019, Sir Mick’s rigorous fitness routine of running, kickboxing, cycling, and yoga has kept him in remarkable shape and their shows are hugely energetic.

Keith won’t turn 80 until December 18 making him several months younger than Sir Mick.

However, Ronnie is younger than both of them at a mere 76 years old.
