Keary facing weeks off after freak collision

The Sydney Roosters look to have suffered another injury blow, with gun halfback Luke Keary facing weeks on the sidelines with a suspected broken jaw.

Midway through the first half of their 18-16 win over the Knights, Keary was looking to make a try-saving tackle on Newcastle winger Dom Young, but missed and copped the back of Young’s boot square in the jaw.

Keary went straight up the tunnel and was shortly after ruled out for the rest of the match.

“The heel of the left boot just catching Keary right on the jaw,” Greg Alexander said on commentary for Fox Sports.

“Let’s hope they’re just fears. That would be a blow both to Luke and the Roosters.”

The Roosters were error-prone in the first half, and it was off the back of a lost ball on the first tackle after scrum on their own 10m line that Young looked to have scored.

But to rub salt into coach Trent Robinson’s wounds, the try was shortly after disallowed after replays showed a double knock-on.

The Roosters are already without Brandon Smith, Connor Watson, Paul Momirovski and Sam Walker through injury, Joseph Suaalii and Victor Radley through suspension, and James Tedesco on Origin duty.

Tries to Nat Butcher, Joseph Manu and Daniel Tupou saw the Roosters take a comfortable lead into the sheds, but the Knights surged in the second half and looked a chance to steal an upset over the boys from Bondi.
