Katie Price has detailed her battle with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after being raped during a brutal carjacking in South Africa four years ago.

The former glamour model suffered the harrowing ordeal while filming her reality series, My Crazy Life, in 2018.

Price, 44, – who was with her children – and the film crew were ambushed by thugs who robbed them as they drove from Johannesburg to Swaziland.

However, the reality TV star suffered even more of a traumatic ordeal as she was also sexually assaulted.

Following the incident, Price received treatment at The Priory to deal with the trauma she experienced as a result of the harrowing events, and has insisted her rehab stint was not related to addiction issues.

Opening up about the aftermath of the carjacking, Price said ahead of her new Channel 4 documentary Katie Price: Trauma and Me: ‘The experience when I was filming with ITV in South Africa, we had no security, if we had security they would have been able to deal with the six guys that jumped us, held me at gunpoint and raped me.’

Price added to the Mail Online: ‘I hit severe depression a couple of years ago, depression on top of PTSD, I was suicidal, didn’t want to be here. I tried to kill myself.

‘I knocked myself out and had black eyes. I had bruises around my neck. I woke up. I didn’t want to be here.’

The mother-of-five went on to reveal that the incident became the catalyst for her mental health struggles, while also describing her ex-husbands as ‘triggers’ for her personal battles.

‘I have therapy every other week and I so wish I did this years ago because it would have stopped a lot of things that I might have said and reacted to because I felt I had to protect myself,’ she explained to Metro.co.uk and other press.

Discussing what causes her ‘breaking points,’ Price, who has been married to Peter Andre, Alex Reid and Kieran Hayler, said her ex-husbands and managers were ‘triggers’.

‘All I can say is they are my triggers, my ex-husbands and managers. That’s it.’ she revealed. ‘Without any of them in my life, it would be a breeze.’

Katie Price: Trauma and Me airs Thursday, September 8 at 9pm on Channel 4.
