Katherine Ryan’s baby son made panel show debut at two weeks old
The comedian, 38, was back to work with her newborn son Fred just weeks after giving birth when she appeared on Mel Giedroyc’s show Unforgivable.
When Mel told Katherine she was surprised she was back to work so soon, she replied: ‘Well, someone offered me money to come, so here I am.’
Speaking at the launch of Dave’s new season of programmes, Mel added that it was ‘insane’ that little Fred, who was born last summer, didn’t cry at all during his first TV appearance, adding: ‘It was extraordinary that baby – he was only two or three weeks old.’
Katherine shared a photo of her and Fred on the show on Twitter as she joked: ‘Two weeks old and already on a panel show. It’s that easy for men.’
As well as making his debut TV appearance on a panel show, Fred also got a taste of the tour life as Katherine took him on the road with her.
She previously told the Evening Standard that it was tougher touring with Fred than it had been when her daughter Violet, 12, was a baby.
Katherine admitted: ‘It is tough to tour with a baby. I hadn’t realised. I was a lot more elastic when I was 25, when I had Violet, both metaphorically and figuratively.
‘I wasn’t lucky enough that people were coming to see me on purpose when I was 25. I was gigging with my daughter, but I didn’t remember it being difficult.
‘My son Fred comes with me to all the cities and towns. I think we have cracked it now. He has seen a lot of the UK – we have got to do a lot of fun things. Every kid is different and I don’t think he enjoys being on the road as much as Violet did.’
She revealed that she has told other comedian friends who want to tour with a baby to not do it as it is ‘a lot’.
Katherine Ryan will appear on the second episode of Unforgivable’s new series, airing one Dave at 10pm on February 15.
