Kate & William’s unusual nicknames for Prince George and Princess Charlotte
Prince George is officially known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge and has the middle names, Alexander and Louis. His little sister Charlotte has the official title of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and has the middle names Elizabeth and Diana.
However, at school, the royal children are not addressed by their official titles and are listed in their class registers as George and Charlotte Cambridge.
Their titles derive from their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their surnames in school are listed as such.
This was the case for William and Harry when they attended school, as they were known as William and Harry Wales, after their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.
They also used this surname when they served in the military, with William being known as Lieutenant Wales and Harry as Officer Cadet Wales, before eventually being promoted to lieutenant.

When Prince Louis is old enough to attend school, he will also go by Louis Cambridge.
Officially, Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname for any of the Queen’s descendants who need to use it.
It merges the names Windsor, the royal family name, with Mountbatten, which was Prince Philip’s surname after he became a naturalised British citizen.
The surname is used by Meghan and Harry’s two children Archie and Lilibet who do not have a Prince or Princess title.

However, George Cambridge is not the only nickname Prince George has been given.
Shortly after he was born, royal sources told the Daily Mail that Kate and William began calling him PG, the initials for Prince George.
Kate and William reportedly later added the word ‘Tips’ because ‘PG’ reminded them of the famous teabag brand.
This nickname was eventually shortened to just ‘Tips’ and is an adorable nickname.
Whilst playing on a swing, William asked his daughter to give him a push, referring to her as ‘Mignonette’.
In English, Mignonette translates as ‘little sweet’, with mignon meaning ‘sweet’ and ‘ette’ adding a cute element to it.
This adorable nickname is very different to the more traditional shortening of Charlotte that Kate uses.
During an official trip to Northern Ireland in 2019, Kate met a fellow mum called Laura-Ann and her son.
According to the Mirror, Laura-Ann later posted about the meeting on Instagram, claiming Kate had called her daughter ‘Lottie’.
