Kate Silverton shares insight into Strictly partner Aljaz and Janette’s struggle
Former BBC News presenter Kate Silverton has revealed how “thrilled” she is for Aljaz Skorjanec and Janette Manrara, as the pair are finally expecting their first child.
The star, who met Aljaz when they were partnered up on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, faced her own fertility struggles and admitted she discussed this issue with Janette, who was facing a similar issue before falling pregnant this year.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Kate said of Janette and Aljaz: “They are an absolute delight, and I’m just so thrilled.”
She added: “I did know how much they both wanted to become parents.”
Kate also recalled how the former Strictly pro had bonded with her son Wilbur, proving he would be a great parent.
The presenter, who left the BBC in 2021 to pursue a new career in child psychology, continued: “And certainly when Aljaz was throwing Wilbur around the garden and spinning him around, you know, they’re both going to be amazing parents and that little one is going to be so lucky to have them.
“I’m thrilled, I’m just watching the journey and delighted for them both, and especially when I think my own journey was quite difficult to get to that point, and they’ve had that challenge too, and Janette and I have spoken about that.
“And so knowing what has gone before, and how they’ve got to this point has not been easy, the joy when they become the parents…
“I mean, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t give thanks for my children, because it took us so long to get to that point.”
Reflecting on her own difficult journey to become a mum with husband Mike, the presenter divulged: “It was five years and then we gave up, you know.
“Then, the day that we got married, we accepted we couldn’t have children, and then I fell pregnant naturally at 41 and 42.
“I think, you know, that’s where the resilience comes in, and that’s where relationships matter.
“So, in that way, I’m so thrilled for them to be at this point of their journey and I so look forward to seeing what they’re going to do next.
“I’m really honestly so thrilled for them. It makes me quite emotional when I think about it, but yeah, so we text and I’m checking in on that.”
It comes after Janette revealed that she and Aljaz had been trying to conceive for more than two years before they received the happy news that they were expecting.
Before getting pregnant, Janette had feared her dream of becoming a mother would be unlikely to come true, as she approached her 40th birthday.
Janette and Aljaz had arranged to begin IVF treatment, but the dancer was shocked to discover she was already pregnant.
