Kate and William like to coordinate to look ‘conservative and traditional’

Kate, Princess of Wales and Prince William have been coordinating their outfits when out and about at public engagements, and especially for official photo opportunities with their children.

According to a fashion expert, there is a colour they prefer to wear and it helps them look “conservative” and “traditional”.

Rosie Harte said blue symbolises peace and modernity and is often associated with the Royal Family.

She added: “Ask anyone what colour they associate with the Wales family clan, and most likely they’ll say blue.

“Starting with her Issa engagement dress and sapphire ring, Catherine has carefully cultivated a link between herself and the colour blue.”

For her first official portrait in 2013, Kate wore an “inky-blue blouse” and then for her second portrait in 2022, she chose “a teal-tinged dress by The Vampire’s Wife beside Prince William in a suit and blue tie”.

The fashion expert said: “For their 10th wedding anniversary photos, Catherine wore a floral dress and William a blue jumper, and for the 2022 Easter service at Windsor, William, Catherine, George, and Charlotte were all dressed in various shades of blue.”

Most recently, for Father’s Day, the couple released a photograph of William and their three children, all dressed in blue.

As for why the couple like the colour blue, it “marks the five young royals out as a distinct unit within a wider familial network, emphasizing their unity and suggesting a commonality of values”, Rosie suggested.

Blue is also “more palatable” than the other colours “traditionally associated with royalty”.

Blue is “less aggressive than red and significantly more conservative than purple”.

Rosie also told Femail the colour blue associations with peace and also modernity, making it a perfect representation of the Waleses’ quest to appeal to both traditional and progressive values in society.”

The Wales’s are not the only royal who like to wear blue, Queen Camilla is also a fan of wearing the colour blue.

She has worn it a lot since becoming Queen in particular, and it’s reported that she likes to wear blue to ‘meaningful events’ as it’s a quintessentially British colour.
