Kanye West defends Yeezy Gap trash bags: ‘I’m an innovator, this is not a joke’

Kanye West is defending Yeezy Gap’s trashy clothing display.

The Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection went viral after a shopper tweeted a picture of the clothes being sold out of what looked like trash bags.

“This is how they are selling Yeezy GAP,” the tweet said. “The sales associate said Ye got mad when he saw they had it on hangers and this is how he wanted it. They won’t help you find ur size too, you just have to just dig through everything.”

Kanye West, who said last week he is inspired by the "homeless," is reportedly selling his new fashion collection out of what look like trash bags.

West, who last week said he is inspired by the “homeless,” was asked in an interview with Fox News if he understood why the displays have been slammed as insensitive.

“I’m an innovator, and I’m not here to sit up and apologize for my ideas. That’s exactly what the media tries to do: make us apologize for any idea that doesn’t fall under exactly the way they want us to think,” the 45-year-old rapper said.

The “Heartless” singer clarified that the large bags aren’t trash bags, but are actually large construction bags.

“This is not a joke, this is not a game, this is not just a celebrity collaboration … this is my life,” Ye said.

“I’m fighting for a position to be able to change clothing and bring the best design to the people,” he continued.

Fans were quick to call out the problems with the display.

“Balenciaga & Kanye’s fetish with the homeless as ‘fashion muses’ it’s everything that is wrong with billionaires…they no longer see the plight of people, they don’t see humans that are suffering, they see opportunities to be ‘edgy’ and profit from it…it’s disgusting,” one person tweeted.

“The way Kanye and Balenciaga think these type of set ups and lifestyles are something people choose is beyond crazy. Like bro if given the option nobody would buy clothes at a swap meet, they do it bc they have to,” another wrote.

Even with the backlash and criticism, the collection has been selling out at multiple Gap locations and remains popular.
