KaladKaren on ‘heterosexual rights’ bill: ‘It’s not a pie, they aren’t oppressed’

Celebrity impersonator KaladKaren has questioned the proposed law seeking to protect the “rights of heterosexuals,” stressing that heterosexual individuals “aren’t really oppressed.”

Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. of Manila’s 6th District recently filed HB 5717, which aims to recognize, define and protect the rights of heterosexuals. One of the rights it seeks to “grant and protect” is for heterosexuals to freely express their religion and “express their views […] about homosexuality, bisexuality, and on transgenders and queers.”

In his explanatory note, Abante also called heterosexuals the “actual and direct creations of God.”

Given this, KaladKaren expressed her opinion on the issue on her Twitter page today, Nov. 9.

“Again, giving equal rights to the LGBTQIA+ community does not mean fewer rights for others. It’s not a pie. How can they grant this ‘Heterosexual Act’ when [heterosexuals] aren’t really oppressed?” she asked.

“Naloka ako sa ‘actual and direct creations of God.’ Husay… sabi ni God. Charot!” she jokingly added. (I was shocked by the “actual and direct creations of God” [statement]. Impressive… God said. Joke!)

The LGBTQIA+ rights advocacy group Bahaghari is in agreement with KaladKaren, as its chairperson Reyna Valmores called the proposed Heterosexual Act “a joke of a law” and “a waste of resources.”

Valmores also pointed out that the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics Bill (SOGIESC Bill) already seeks equality among all Filipinos “regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, by uplifting those who are too often discriminated against.”  /ra
