Juventus boss Allegri aims dig at Paulo Dybala amid Manchester United links

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has challenged Paulo Dybala to get “back to being himself” amid transfer links with Manchester United. Dybala will depart the Serie A giants when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Dybala, 28, brings his seven-year stint with Juventus to an end, having scored 115 goals and provided 48 assists in 293 games across all competitions. Amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs, the forward has also been tentatively linked with a move to United as part of their impending rebuild.

However, that pursuit comes with a warning from Juventus manager Allegri, who suggests that Dybala needs to spark a change from within having been compared to Argentina sensation Lionel Messi in the past. However, his cutting words were followed up by some praise.

Allegri told DAZN: “Paulo needs to go back to being himself. There was a time where he got all carried out by those who labelled him as the new Messi. A player can’t go around trying to play, to think or to be like someone else.”

Despite that parting shot, Allegri has backed the Argentine to shine in new surroundings. He added: “He still has lots to give, because he has an extraordinary technical ability. He is a wonderful player.”
