JUTA takes out ‘Peace March’ on 10th day of Dr Chandra Shekher’s death – Times of India

Jammu: A large number of members of the Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) marked the 10th day of Dr Chandra Shekhar’s demise as a protest against the alleged the procedural lapses that led to the death of a faculty member.
Dr Chandra Shekhar was found hanging in his office chamber in the Department of Psychology on September 7, after being put on suspension following complaints of sexual harassment.
JUTA president Prof Pankaj Srivastava reiterated that JUTA believes in “Zero tolerance against sexual harassment” and anyone who indulges in such activities must be punished, but only after following the duly set procedure of JUICCASH.
Further, the teachers demanded that the procedural lapse in the case should also be probed and responsible persons be removed from their official positions, he added.
The JUTA members were of the view that as the gravity of the matter is very intense, hence it should be thoroughly investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Referring to the ongoing pen down strike, JUTA president Prof Srivastava said that the Teachers’ Association of SKUAST-J has extended their support to the Jammu University Teachers’ Association in our protest against the procedural lapses that lead to the death of our colleague.
As a part of the ongoing protest, the members of the association took out a peace march around the University Campus, by holding placards in their hands.
Later, a “Shanti Paath” was chanted by the teachers from the Department of Sanskrit, and prayed for the departed soul.
He also informed that JUTA also took a conscious decision that as the JUET examination is for the admission for the University and hence keeping the interest of the students in view they will not demand any postponement of the JUET.
However, the university teachers decided not to perform any examination duty including JUET.
Secretary JUTA, Dr Ravinder Singh informed that the JUTA will be holding its GBM on September 19 to discuss further course of action.
