‘Just crazy’: Lawson’s F1 laps of Mount Panorama
Fans trackside at the Bathurst 12 Hour have been treated to a rather special rendition of Advance Australia Fair.
Red Bull Racing brought an F1 car to Mount Panorama to do a demonstration run on Saturday, played the Australian national anthem as part of the engine’s warm-up process.
The crowd gave a loud cheer as the rendition finished.

Minutes later, the 2011 World Championship-winning car was let loose on the circuit, driven by Kiwi Liam Lawson.
Lawson trundled around the track for the first lap, before starting to push in laps following.
The car echoed around the track, with fans at the bottom of the mountain easily able to hear the car flying across the top.
The car did not set a representative lap time, but team representatives believe the car was capable of lapping the 6.2km circuit in the 1min30s.
By comparison, the fastest time in qualifying for the Bathurst 12 Hour set less than an hour later was a 2min01sec lap.
Lawson described lapping the circuit as “just crazy”.
F1 car roars around Mount Panorama
“The first lap was honestly very daunting going up the hill with all the elevation, and I was quite nervous,” he told Speedcafe.
“But by the second lap I actually got quite comfortable and the car was really good, so I loved it.”
The 20-year-old Kiwi is the Red Bull Racing team’s official third driver, and will be the direct understudy for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez throughout the 2023 season.
