Jurgen Klopp questions FA over touchline ban and gives Reds the news they want
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he hopes that his fine money goes to a good cause and not the Football Association (FA) after he was hit with a touchline ban ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Aston Villa at Anfield. The 55-year-old was handed a one-game ban as well as a £75,000 fine after questioning whether or not referee Paul Tierney had a grudge against either him personally or Liverpool as a club following the Reds’ victory over Tottenham last month.
Klopp had previously admitted that he was expecting to be punished for his comments and accepted his fate when quizzed on the matter in Friday’s press conference, although he questioned his fine by suggesting that the money should be going to a good cause rather than lining the pockets of the FA.
“I expected a punishment, it’s OK,” said Klopp. “I would like to know where the money goes and if it’s for a good cause. Apart from that, the people around me were negative. They thought it would be longer.”
