Jurgen Klopp revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘felt his hamstring’ before being substituted in Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold was excellent during the dominant 3-0 win over the Villains in the Premier League at Anfield, providing an assist for Dominik Szoboszlai and generally impressing on the ball.

However, it was worrying for Klopp and Reds fans as they saw the England star limp out of the contest after 71 minutes, heading straight down the tunnel and looking uncomfortable.

Klopp revealed that Alexander-Arnold did not seem too concerned by the issue, but any mention of a hamstring complaint is clearly a worry.

Asked about the injury, the German said: ‘He felt his hamstring. It’s not too serious is his opinion but we have to wait for the scans.’

With the international break following this round of Premier League action, Liverpool are not playing again until 16 September when they travel to take on Wolves.

The club will be hoping that Alexander-Arnold’s injury is nothing serious and he misses little or no action, although clearly a hamstring problem could mean a lengthy period on the sidelines at its worse.

England play Ukraine on 9 September and then Scotland three days later, so Alexander-Arnold’s involvement in both games is clearly in doubt.

Outside of the concern over Alexander-Arnold it was a very good day for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with a Matty Cash own goal and a Mohamed Salah strike completing a surprisingly easy win over Villa who were poor on the day.

The three points makes it 10 from four games to start the campaign in impressive fashion, with their only dropped points coming at Chelsea on the opening day.

On the victory and performance, Klopp said: ‘Top game, best for a while. I don’t know the last time we were that convincing.

‘It was really good, offensively and defensively. You can’t do one step less against Villa. Early goal might have helped. We looked really good.’
