Julie Bishop reveals her risque texts
She may have recently broken up with her long-term partner, but Julie Bishop still knows her way around an eggplant emoji.
The former foreign minister revealed she has been the recipient of the odd risque text message while chatting with Carrie Bickmore and Waleed Aly on The Project on Tuesday night.
She was discussing the use of emojis after a survey found that 58 per cent of people do not know what they mean. The eggplant in particular is sometimes used to represent a penis.
Ms Bishop said: “I just think take the literal meaning – don’t mull over the meanings. If someone sends me a ‘hey Julie check out my eggplant’, I mean, it is an eggplant, right?
“So that means they are at the supermarket.”
Bickmore replied that Ms Bishop must have some fascinating private messages from top politicians.
She asked: “Have you ever sent an eggplant to a PM?”
The former politicians laughed, before Bickmore pressed further.
“Well you may have been shopping and… you know?”
“Oh no, I’m a recipient, I’m not a giver of eggplants,” Ms Bishop replied.
“But you like shopping?’ Bickmore laughed back.
“I think I am blushing,” Ms Bishop said.
David Panton ended his eight-year relationship with Ms Bishop at the start of July.
The NSW property developer reportedly told Ms Bishop on Friday, July 1, that the relationship was over while they dined at the Eastbank restaurant on Macquarie St, Sydney.
“I’m going to be focused on living in Manly and Melbourne for the foreseeable future,” Mr Panton said.
“I wish Julie all the best in her ongoing stellar career.”
