Julia Bradbury breaks down in tears to be ‘still here’ after cancer fight

Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury has shared an emotional Instagram post reflecting on her battle with breast cancer.

The casually dressed 52-year-old explained that she had planned on doing an Insta live about the benefits of walking.

However, she was stopped in her tracks to discover that a tree stump which was a significant part of her cancer journey was no longer there.

Clearly emotional she explained to her 227,000 followers, “I thought I’d share my little moment with you. I’m just feeling overwhelmed.

“I come to this park a lot and I came to it every week after my mastectomy, my breast cancer operation.

“There was a trunk that I would stand up on and I would balance upon a bit like karate kid style.

“I would come up here with my friends, come to this park, and it would get them to do it as well.

“It was a sort of a rite of passage and if you could do it, it was… some sort of symbol of strength and rejuvenation,” she said.

Fighting back tears, the mum of three explained why she was so affected.

“Anyway, the trunk’s gone,” she revealed. “Nature has taken it, which is fine! That’s the impermanence of nature,” she accepted.

“But it just made me feel happy, sad that I’m still here,” she said.

“And really, really grateful. This beautiful, beautiful day that I wanted to share with you.”

She went on to encourage people to look after themselves.

“If you’re somebody younger or you’ve got children, I want you to really take your health seriously,” she implored.

“It doesn’t just happen. Even if you’re strong and you seem to be quite vital, like the way I was before my breast cancer.

“Stuff happens. You do need to eat well. You do need to sleep well. You do need to look after your mental health.

“We do need maintenance. We aren’t just machines that can keep going and going,” she emphatically stated.

“And today’s world is pretty toxic, environmentally and emotionally and we need to take care of ourselves”

Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021 and recorded her journey on Instagram and in the documentary Breast Cancer and Me.

Sadly, she still does not have the all-clear as medics have told her she has “micro-invasions,” small fragments of cancerous cells in her milk duct and breast tissue and genetic testing has revealed she has a higher than average risk of the cancer returning.
