Jose Mourinho nemesis Eva Carneiro slams Taylor video as ref abused by Roma fans
Jose Mourinho’s foe Dr Eva Carneiro has weighed on the shocking video footage of referee Anthony Taylor being hounded and threatened by Roma fans after he officiated the Europa League final. The Italian side 4-1 lost on penalties to seven-time winners Sevilla in Budapest on Wednesday and Taylor was criticised for his performance in the final, with angry Roma fans confronting the English referee as he left the airport the next day.
Taylor was accused of failing to award a penalty for the Serie A outfit in extra time and later pointed to the spot for Sevilla for a foul on Lucas Ocampos, before overturning his decision after VAR recommended an on-field review.
Roma eventually lost in the shootout after Gianluca Mancini and Roger Ibanez failed to score, with the Spanish side scoring all of their penalties.
But as far as Mourinho was concerned, Taylor was to blame for their defeat as the Portuguese allegedly swore and shouted at Taylor and his colleagues, calling them “f***ing crooks” in the stadium car park.
Mourinho has since been heavily criticised for his conduct towards Taylor, especially after Roma fans made their displeasure known when they hounded and threatened Taylor – who was travelling with his wife – as they walked through security.
Stewards had to step in to stop vile thugs from attacking the 44-year-old official as the Premier League and UEFA referee made for the exit, having been cornered by a group of fans.
And Carneiro was not afraid to weigh in with her thoughts via her official Twitter account.
The former Chelsea doctor, 49, slammed the treatment Taylor received after appearing to watch the video on social media.
“Absolutely horrific #consequences,” she tweeted via her personal Twitter account.
Carneiro and Mourinho have a long history of tension after falling out during their time working together at Chelsea.
The Gibraltar-born medic was singled out by Mourinho after he shouted at her for treating an injured player without his consent.
Mourinho was alleged to have sworn at Carneiro in Portuguese after she ran onto the pitch.
Carneiro settled her dispute in court with the club and the 60-year-old after bringing a case for constructive dismissal and sexual discrimination back in 2016.
After she left Chelsea, she remained working in sport and recently worked with Andy Murray in her field.
