Jordan Banjo rushes baby son to hospital in life-threatening emergency
Jordan and Naomi Banjo welcomed their third child, Atreus, barely seven weeks ago, thrilling their following as their adorable family grew.
However, Naomi took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal a heartbreaking update with fans alongside a black-and-white video clip as she cuddled her baby son, with medical wires and leads trailing behind him.
She shared that the last week had been “the most emotionally draining, frightening week of our lives”, after she took little Atreus to A&E “after feeling like something wasn’t right”.
The baby was immediately admitted to the hospital with sepsis and suspected meningitis.
Naomi continued: “We’ve cried a lot, we’ve barely slept, and we’ve discussed the worst .. but we’ve carried each other through possibly one of the most traumatic weeks of our lives.”
“You never think it would be your baby and honestly I can’t explain how awful it is having to leave your poorly baby behind in a hospital and go home and just be ‘mummy’ to your other children when inside your heart is breaking.”
Naomi explained that she and Jordan had been alternating nights spent with the seven-week-old, to help “keep some normality” for their older children.
However, she admitted: “It’s been tough but we’ve done our best for our babies. All we need now is our family back together where we belong.”
The relieved mum added that baby Atreus is now starting to improve and assured fans “things are looking positive”.
She gushed: “Our super brave strong boy has had all sorts of blood tests, a lumber puncture and constant prodding and poking this week but there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel and we cannot wait to get him home where he belongs.”
While the family is still looking for answers, Atreus is set to continue with antibiotics for another week.
Naomi shared an urgent statement to other parents, insisting that it’s “important to recognise” the symptoms of this life-threatening medical emergency.
What had initially concerned the dotting mum was that Atreus had been refusing to feed in the night, grew “very lethargic and glossy eyed” and was simply not himself.
She continued listing his symptoms: “He was grunting with every breath, rapid breathing. His skin was mottled. He had a rash which spread the longer we were in hospital. He was very sleepy. High pitch cries even when sleeping. Cried in pain when I picked him up or touched him. Cold hands and feet.”
Jordan shared his wife’s message on his own Instagram, adding: “Little update on why we’ve been so quiet on here. You can read the caption but it’s been a very tough, crazy week.”
With a red heart emoji, the dancer added: “Family first. Always.”
