Jonnie Irwin ‘doing good’ despite cancer diagnosis says close pal Lucy Alexander

The former A Place in the Sun star is “really well” his close friend and colleague Lucy Alexander told Express.co.uk at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday.

Jonnie revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 but kept his health battle a secret from fans.

He shared the news he had terminal lung caner in November 2022 and explained he “doesn’t know how long I have left”.

Lucy said she met up with Jonnie recently and gave an update on how her pal is doing.

She commented: “Laura [Hamilton] is my mate, she called me just now to say what are you wearing on the red carpet?

“I’ve known them all for years really. Jasmine [Harman] and Jonnie [Irwin].”

Asked how Jonnie is doing, Lucy added: “[He’s] really well, I saw him a little while ago. Doing good, all okay.”

Lucy is now working on A Place in the Sun but many TV fans will know her from Homes Under the Hammer.

Addressing whether she would return, she remarked: “Well never say never because of course my love is property and I love auction and I love travel.

“The perfect combination for me now is A Place in the Sun, it’s a dream job.”

Shedding details of what it’s like filming the Channel 4 show, Lucy joked she was “reeking” after wearing the same dress for days on end.

“Well you wear your same dress every single day on the beach and people think it all happens in one day,” she shared.

“But it happens over five days so by the end of the week, I’m absolutely reeking.”

Lucy looked fabulous as she arrived on the red carpet for the 2023 BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises.

The property expert and TV star opted for a black top and wide-leg trousers, which she wore with a sequin jacket.

She completed her red carpet look with wedge sandals and a black clutch bag while her blonde locks were left loose.

For finishing touches, Lucy sported gold hoop earrings and matching jewellery.

The 2023 BAFTA Television Awards air on BBC tonight at 7pm.
